Free Eye Check-up and Spectacle Distribution Camp in Oman
The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, in collaboration with Badr Al Samaa Hospital in Oman and the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS), organized a free eye check-up camp today, 27 June 2025 (13 Ashadh 2082). The eye examination was conducted by doctors from Badr Al Samaa Hospital. On this occasion, spectacles with plus power were provided immediately free of cost. For those requiring minus-powered lenses, glasses will be prepared in Nepal and distributed later free of charge based on necessity.
This marks the first time the NNJS has partnered with the Embassy to conduct eye examinations and distribute spectacles free of cost abroad. Additionally, free blood sugar and blood pressure tests were provided for individuals attending the camp.
Earlier this morning, Mr. Sameer P.T., CEO of Badr Al Samaa Hospital, welcomed H.E. Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal and Associate Prof. Dr. Puspa Giri Shrestha, Chief Medical Director from NNJS, to the hospital. On behalf of the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Chief Medical Director of Bharatupur Eye Hospital, Associate Prof. Dr. Puspa Giri Shrestha, and on behalf of Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Mr. Sameer P.T., exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Ambassador Aryal. The event was also attended by senior officials from the hospital and the Embassy.
Furthermore, on 26 June 2025, a meeting was organized between Associate Prof. Dr. Puspa Giri Shrestha and Dr. Nasra Alhabsi, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Al Nahda Hospital, in coordination with Oman’s Foreign Ministry. The meeting focused on best practices in eye care and ophthalmology science in Nepal and Oman, and future collaboration.
These meetings and the MoU with Badr Al Samaa Hospital are expected to serve as milestones in promoting cooperation between Nepal and Oman in the field of ophthalmology. They will help facilitate the exchange of expertise and support the organization of similar free medical camps in the future.
Previously, on 4 January 2024, the Embassy of Nepal, Muscat and Badr Al Samaa Hospital had signed an agreement to provide healthcare services to the Nepali community in Oman.
Thanks to prior online appointment bookings, the event was conducted in a smooth, crowd-free, and organized manner. As the cost of making glasses in Oman is quite high, this initiative provided direct and significant benefits to the Nepali community. Similar programs are planned to be conducted in other cities of Oman in the future. The Embassy of Nepal, Muscat extends sincere thanks to Badr Al Samaa Hospital team and Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh and all the Nepali volunteers who supported the camp.
